What is Paleo?
The Paleo lifestyle (notice I do not say the "D" word) is simple to understand. The most basic rule is to eat clean. What does that mean? Try and find the best quality of whatever you eat. Eat real food; no processed food, no colors, no artificial anything. Food should be the only ingredient. Also, Paleo followers do not eat grains and/or dairy.
I am not 100% anything. When I travel I love to experiment with all the local fare that is offered. I also do not like to go out to eat and ask a million questions about the oil the chef cooks in, etc. I also know that I; like anyone else, has tendencies to want a homemade ice cream or a bowl of pasta (but it is very rare). I love the way I feel and the "Paleo food" I prepare about 90% of the time.
Unlike Atkins and Weight Watchers that are "temporary" diets that count points and calories, Paleo is a lifestyle choice.
Why do people eat Paleo?
People choose to go Paleo for a variety of reasons. The most common are weight loss and overall general health. Those that choose to follow a Paleo diet report feeling better and the disappearance of symptoms of common illnesses. More muscle, less fat, healthy cells, and a healthy brain are enough reasons for me; but if you need more reasons, check out the following article that lists 15 Health Benefits to eating Paleo:
